Warnings of fire-risks from today, as high temperatures, and strong winds are forecast

Strong wind warnings and watches are in place for most of the South Island today, with temperatures reaching high 20s.

Similar conditions are expected for parts of the North Island, with higher temperatures in Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.

Fire and Emergency National Wildfire Manager, Tim Mitchell, says paired with low humidity, some areas are in danger of blazes starting quickly.

He says the western regions of both islands, are most at risk.
