Iman loves taking "risks" with her style choices

The 70-year-old model says she would rather wear an outfit that is remembered for the wrong reasons instead of blending into the background.

Speaking to Vogue ahead of The Fashion Awards in London on Monday (01.12.25), Iman said: "I personally think sometimes (looking) bad is better than not even being mentioned, you know. It's great to take risks."

Iman wore a sweeping yellow floral gown to the ceremony and likened the garment to "wearable art".

She said: "This dress feels to me sculptural, like wearable art.

"The silhouette is really powerful, the colours are beautiful and evocative."

Iman turned 70 in July and credits her mother's skincare advice as one of the reasons behind her enduring beauty.

The model - who was married to music icon David Bowie from 1992 until his death in 2016 - recalled: "My mother used to say to me, and I remember very clearly, 'The skin you take care of in your teens is what you're going to inherit in your 70s.' (I am) the proof of it.

"I keep my routine very simple but consistent: a great cleanser, vitamin C, moisturiser (and) definitely SPF every single day."

Iman has served as a mentor for many aspiring young models - including Model of the Year Award winner Anok Yai - and urged those eyeing a place on the catwalk to remember that modelling is a "marathon" career.

She said: "The best advice I can give is for a girl to know who you are before the world tells you who to be.

"Be professional, be on time, be kind, be curious, and protect yourself. Your career is a marathon, not a sprint. Longevity comes with integrity and willingness to grow."

Iman previously recalled having no idea what she was doing at her first catwalk show.

She told InStyle last year: "My first show was for Halston. Talk about being put in an arena that you're not prepared [for]. I mean, I literally did not know anything. Halston had this studio, this very famous studio. The whole thing was a mirror. The walls were mirrored, the ceiling was mirrored, the floors were mirrored.

"I'd never worn heels in my life, scared to death. And [the show was] in his showroom. So it was like three rooms, all mirrored. I walked the first room, terrified, walked the second room, and now I got a little bit confident, and I thought, Oh, there is a third room. There are only two rooms. I walked right into a mirror."
