Arlene Silver is "so grateful" to have her husband Dick Van Dyke for company

The Mary Poppins legend celebrates his 100th birthday on Saturday (13.12.25) and the make-up artist is delighted to witness the love that the Hollywood icon is receiving ahead of the huge milestone.

Speaking to People at the premiere of Dick Van Dyke: A 100th Celebration on Sunday (07.12.25), Arlene, 54, said: "I'm so glad he's still with us.
"I've always been celebrating him now, since 2011 when I got him on social media. It's like a pinnacle of all that is... All these different people from different events we've done... So cool. I'm so happy.
"I'm so honoured to have him in my life, take care of him, and nurture this community that we've built, that he's built over the years, but I feel like the in-person stuff is new. So I love it. Look at what I get to look at. So cool."
Dick and his wife met backstage at 2006 SAG Awards - before marrying six years later - and the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang actor recalled how she made an instant impression on him.
He said: "One thing I had never done was ever approach a strange woman in my life. She walked by, and without thinking, I jumped up and said, 'Hi, I'm Dick.' (I) asked her to sit down and found out she was a makeup lady and I hired her on the spot."
Van Dyke credits his wife - who is 46 years his junior - for "keeping (him) in the moment".
He said: "She's responsible for keeping me in the moment. She's kept me happy every day of my life, every day. She's a joy. She can get me singing or dancing and she carries so much responsibility... I'm just lucky."
Dick also believes that giving up cigarettes and alcohol in his 50s has helped him live for so long.
Speaking at the Vandy High Tea fundraising event, he said: "I smoked a lot, actually!
"I think I was probably in my 50s before it dawned on me that I had an addictive personality. If I liked something, I was going to overdo it.
"So I got rid of booze and cigarettes and all that stuff, which is probably why I'm still here."
