Teyana Taylor was given an extension on her cookery school assignment so she could attend the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday

The 34-year-old musician/actress has enrolled on a course studying culinary arts and she needed extra time to complete her coursework so she could attend the prizegiving in Los Angeles where she picked up the award for Best Supporting Female Actor (Motion Picture) for her performance in One Battle After Another.

Teyana told E! News: "My deadline is on Tuesday. I gotta have my meals by Tuesday. I spoke to my chef yesterday, and he's giving me an extension so I can turn my assignment in on Thursday. My school has been very, very supportive of me ...

"I was like: 'Chef, it ain't happening [getting the work done by Tuesday]'. This is when a double life is kicking in. I'm like: 'I'm gonna need 'til Thursday.'

"I'm a straight-A student, and I want to keep it that way. I don't want to make any excuses."

Teyana has a busy schedule over the next few weeks as Hollywood awards season gets into full swing but she determined not to take any time off from her classes.

She added: "I don't want to do none of that. Just give me an extra two days. I get home on Monday and I might still have it in by Tuesday.

"It's like to have myself that time, so I'm not panicking. One thing about me is I am a student, baby."

Teyana previously revealed she's found the experience of taking cookery classes "amazing" so she's going to come back to train as a pastry chef once she finishes her current course.

She told ELLE magazine: "Culinary school has been amazing. I've always been in love with cooking because cooking is very therapeutic for me, and it allows and forces me to actually take a moment for myself, to just be quiet and cook.

"I'm in [school] for culinary arts, and when I'm done, I'm going to come back for pastry arts. I love to make my professors proud, [to be treated] like every other student. I'm purely graded for just me doing the work and not being judged by who I am."

She went on to add the course has been hard work and she was busy doing homework while juggling promotional duties for One Battle After Another.

Teyana added: "Culinary school is hard work, even just with my business classes, discussion forums, and my quizzes, but it makes me feel so accomplished.

"I know I'm already doing a million things, and this makes it a million and one, but I'm proud of that. I was on my way to the One Battle After Another premiere, literally doing school assignments."
