There's reports of flooding in Northland following heavy rain

Social media photos show surface flooding in the coastal area of Oakura - north of Whangarei.

Metservice has issued an orange heavy rain warning for Eastern and Central Northland lasting until Midday today.

Severe thunderstorm warnings were also issued for Northland this morning but they've now been lifted.

MetService meteorologist Devlin Lynden says a few places, including Whananaki, Dugmores Rock, and Glenbervie have recorded over 100-millimetres of rain overnight.

Warkworth's seen 74 millimetres of rain in the last eight hours.
