Da Cheng Zhi - known as Eddie - is facing seven charges under the Resource Management Act relating to the Tuturau business.

Six of the charges allege blood and other contaminants being discharged onto land where they could enter water - which carry a maximum penalty of two years' jail or a 300-thousand dollar fine.

The seventh charge relates to failing to comply with abatement notices issued last year.
