Shock from neighbours - following a stabbing that's left a man in critical condition - at a central Christchurch property

Investigators wearing white boiler suits are tracing steps around the Fitzgerald Avenue property - almost 24 hours after a man was found wounded there.

A neighbour's described it as a 'rough' area, but says he's never seen something like this before.

He says three generations of a family live at the property, including a child.

Police say there's no ongoing risk to the public.
