Most will expire later tonight, except for Christchurch and the Canterbury Plains areas.

Meanwhile a wastewater discharge has been detected at Akaroa Main Beach in the Banks Peninsula.

The Wellington City Council has opened facilities including some community centres and libraries to residents impacted by power cuts.
