Ryan Gosling won't direct another film until his kids are older

The 43-year-old actor is dad to two daughters - Esmeralda, nine, and seven-year-old Amada - with his partner Eva Mendes and Ryan has revealed he is making career choices with his family in mind while his girls are "so little" but he does hope to get back in the director's chair eventually once they grow up

He told The Sunday Times newspaper: "I'm up for it ... But directing takes so much time. And, right now, my kids are so little - it's really 24 hours for us at home right now. So, yes, in the future, but right now, my choices are more about what's great for my family in terms of my experience of making this movie."

Ryan - who made his directorial debut on 2014's 'Lost River' - went on to admit he also can't commit to hectic shooting schedules and couldn't make another film like 2011's 'Drive' due to his family committments.

He added: "Oh I couldn't do 'Drive' now, with my kids at the age they are. I just couldn't. So these current films [I'vebeen making] work perfectly, for where we are at as a family right now."

Ryan's most recent projects include 'Barbie' and 'The Fall Guy'.

His admission comes after his partner Eva revealed the couple had a "non-verbal agreement" she'd be a stay-at-home mum when they became parents while he went out and earned money in Hollywood.

During an appearance on the 'Today' show, she explained: "It was almost just like a non-verbal agreement, that it was like, 'Ok, he's going to work and I'm going to work, I'm just going to work here.'"

Eva stressed she felt it was a "no-brainer" to put her successful Hollywood career on hold to spend time nurturing their kids, adding: "I'm so lucky."

She also said she still has a career and has only put her acting on hold as she has two young kids. Eva added: "I still worked, I just didn't act because acting takes you on locations, it takes you away."
