    Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 1330hrs Friday 17-May-2024 by MetService

    Situation:
    A front moves onto the far south today, while a ridge of high pressure develops elsewhere over Aotearoa/New Zealand. The front moves slowly north across the South Island during Saturday and Sunday, weakening away on Monday while the ridge remains elsewhere. On Tuesday, a low in the Tasman Sea extends a front across the upper North Island.

    Forecast issued at 1107hrs Friday 17-May-2024
    Valid to 1 pm Friday for Wellington Harbour and the south coast from Sinclair Head to Baring Head.
    Friday: Northerly 10 knots, rising to 15 knots this afternoon and 20 knots this evening. Sea becoming moderate this afternoon. Mainly fine apart from some evening cloud. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell half a metre, rising to 1 metre for a time. For Castlepoint - Southerly swell 1 metre. Northeast swell 1 metre, easing to half a metre.
    Saturday: Northerly 20 knots, easing to 10 knots in the afternoon. Turning southerly 10 knots late evening. Moderate sea easing. Fine, low cloud and drizzle developing later. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell half a metre. For Castlepoint - Southwest swell 1 metre. Northeast swell half a metre.

    Outlook until midnight Tuesday:
    Sunday: Southeast 10 knots, easing to variable 5 knots in the morning. Cloud
    clearing. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell half
    a metre, rising to 1 metre. For Castlepoint - Southwest swell 1
    metre. Northeast swell rising to 1 metre.
    Monday: Variable 5 knots, becoming southeast 10 knots later. Fine. For the
    South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell 1 metre. For
    Castlepoint - Southeast swell 1 metre. Northeast swell 1 metre.
    Tuesday: Southeast 10 knots. Fine. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay -
    Southerly swell 1 metre, easing to half a metre for a time. For
    Castlepoint - Southwest swell 1 metre. Northeast swell rising to 1.5
    metres.
