A conservation expert says politicians need to wake up to the financial importance of the environment

Auckland University's Dr James Russell hopes an 80-million dollar funding boost to DOC, is the start of that.
But he says it's only a small amount, compared to the value of the conservation estate, to tourism.
Dr Russell says while there's a significant non-financial obligation, even the money equation stacks up.
He says if we're to reach the Predator Free 2050 goal, the Government needs to dig deeper.
