In Auckland, essential supplies have been delivered to the still-isolated west coast suburbs of Piha, Muriwai and Karekare.
Eight Civil Defence centres remain open -- and housed 61 people overnight.
There are still 16-hundred households without power... and about 600 homes have been red-stickered and many more have yellow placards.
Auckland Council regulatory services director Craig Hobbs says the North Shore was significantly flooded, as well as parts of West Auckland, like Glen Eden, areas in the central city and in South Auckland - like Clevedon.
Meanwhile, people on the East Coast cleaning up after the storm are being urged to wear face masks, gloves and long clothing.
Dust from dried silt will contain toxins, chemicals and faecal matter that can make people ill.
People are still being encouraged to keep roads clear for critical repairs and emergency services.
There are still more than six-thousand-500 homes are without power in Hawke's Bay - most in Napier, but more than a thousand in Hastings.
