Another low from the Tasman Sea rolling across the North Island will bring another bout of rain

MetService has issued a heavy rain watch for Gisborne - which will also cover Bay of Plenty, north of Rotorua from mid-afternoon.

Severe weather forecaster Mads Naeraa-Spiers says there may be quite a few thunderstorms and downpours.

He says it will mostly hit the upper North Island in the morning - and could become severe in the afternoon and evening.

Heavy rains overnight into yesterday caused flooding in Rangitikei, forcing residents in Marton and Bulls to evacuate to emergency centres.
