Open Justice reports Mithias Oshae Te Pou also faces seven charges of recklessly causing injury, and one of failing to stop for police.
The crash occurred October last year, when the Honda CRV hit a parked vehicle and overturned on Shakespeare Road.
One person died and several others were badly injured.
The 24-year-old appeared in the High Court today, and was remanded in custody until his November hearing.
A deemed not guilty plea was entered to allow Te Pou's counsel, more time to receive instructions.
