Last week, elderly dog Buddy made headlines when he was stolen from the Christchurch Bull Breed Rescue.

The elderly dog, with severe arthritis, was located in Timaru and has since been returned.

A man has been charged in relation to the incident.

Founder Abbey van der Plas has described it as scary - but now wants to redirect the public's attention to supporting rescues nationwide.

She says they have nearly 40 dogs in their care - and anyone looking at adopting should consider rescues struggling around the country.
