    One person has died after their car hit a tree just south of Matamata last night


    Emergency services were called to to the crash on Tauranga Road State Highway 24 at Te Poi shortly after 8pm.

    Meanwhile, a truck driver has been injured after a crash involving two trucks and a cow on State Highway 27 just north of Matamata.

    A section of the highway is closed following the crash about 4.30am.
