Shane Cooper of Tikipunga played video games for long stints for up to 24 hours at a time.
Open Justice reports back in May Cooper spent a day at home drinking, gaming and dressing up as his alter ego, an FBI agent.
He went to the Grand Hotel In Whangarei and flashed a BB gun which was extremely similar to a Glock pistol.
In sentencing the judge said he was a prime candidate to be shot by the Armed Offenders squad because the gun was convincing.
Cooper was sentenced to five months community detention, 60 hours community work and a year of supervision.
