National Party candidate for New Lynn Paulo Garcia has narrowly avoided being hit by a car in an alleged attack

National Party candidate for New Lynn Paulo Garcia has narrowly avoided being hit by a car in an alleged attack

National says the car swerved at the last minute on Saturday, to avoid them.

Then a man got out waving a hoarding for Labour New Lynn candidate Deborah Russell.

A police spokesperson says a 25-year-old man is due in Waitakere District Court today.

He's charged with common assault, driving while disqualified, behaving threateningly and possession of cannabis for supply.

Labour says to the best of its knowledge the accused isn't part of the campaign, but they condemn any intimidation.

It follows other claims of attacks on the campaign trail from Te Pati Maori, Labour and National.
