Potholes have been dug up along Thorndon Quay as part of Let's Get Wellington Moving

The transit initiative has dug up 26 potholes on eight locations along the street and the south end of Hutt Road.

Its allowed workers to get a clearer picture of power cables and water pipes underground -- and the potholes are being filled and resurfaced.

Programme Director Sarah Gardner says they are introducing themselves to businesses on the Golden Mile face to face.

The controversial plan would see cars scrapped from a number of central city streets.
