Public sector cuts could be to blame for poor economic outlook

Public sector cuts could be to blame for poor economic outlook

ANZ figures show consumer confidence dropped this month, reaching levels close to the 2008 financial crisis.

Wellington faced the biggest dip, being described as the country's most downbeat region.

ANZ senior economist Miles Workman says shrinking the public sector has widely felt effects.

He says retail and hospitality businesses in the capital will be feeling the impacts of lower demand.
