The boarding house, in the suburb of Newtown, went up in flames in the early hours of the morning of May 16th last year.
A plaque near the site has been unveiled, for the city to reflect on the loss.
Mayor Tory Whanau says she will always remember the aroha shown by the community - following the tragic event.
She says it was a heavy burden for many to carry - but the outpouring of support lightened the load, and showed how caring the city is.
