Noel Gallagher got rid of his pet dog - because it fought with his cat like he fought with his brother Liam

The 49-year-old rock legend gave a home to the rescue animal, a Jack Russell crossed with a Pincher, just before last Christmas much to the delight of his wife Sara MacDonald and their two sons Donovan, nine, and Sonny, six.

However, the pooch upset Noel by continuously harassing the family's cat Boots and he made the decision to ditch the dog, just like he ditched Liam, 44, back in 2009 after one Oasis bust-up too many.

Speaking to BBC 6 Music, he spilled: "The dog didn't go the distance I'm afraid, because Tommy, Thomas, was very mean to the cat and the cat had been around for a long time, it was like, 'Look, this is not fair man.' He's gone to a better home now."

The 'Don't Look Back In Anger' hitmaker's call to cull the canine from his home was not that popular with his wife and kids.

And Noel admits there was one other thing that motivated him to move the mutt on - he was certain Sara loved the pooch more than him.

He said: "The kids were not best pleased about it, I wasn't that bothered myself because, to be quite honest, my wife was showing him more affection than me.

"I'll never forget once I came in through the front door and I could hear my missus saying, 'Where have you been? Have you been out, look at you you're all cold.' And I was thinking, 'That's nice.' She's never really like that because she's Scottish. Then she was like, 'Aww, come here you.' Then I realised the dog had come in at the same time through the kitchen door and she was talking to the dog. And I thought, 'No, no, no, this is not going to work.' I'd think I was having a great conversation with my missus and it looked as though she was taking notice of what you were saying and then suddenly she'd shout 'Tommy!' and I'd realise she hadn't been listening to a word I'd been saying."

Noel is an open pussy lover and in Oasis documentary film 'Supersonic' he described himself as a "cat", while singer Liam is a "dog" - a theory which could explain their numerous fall outs.

In the movie, the guitarist says: "I'm a cat and Liam is a dog.

"Cats are very independent creatures, they don't give a f**k. Right bastards. Dogs, it's just f***ing, 'Play with me, play with me, please f***ing throw that ball for me. I need some company.' It's as basic as that. Can't change the way that you are. I'm a cat, OK. That's just what I am. I've accepted it. I'm a bit of a bastard."
