Jesse Abraham-Cordtz and a remand prisoner, were given sentences of 17 months for injuring with intent during the October incident.
The attack was captured on security cameras, leaving the man with considerable bruising and swelling, but no fractures.
Open Justice reports Corrections officers on the wing, had been pre-occupied monitoring another inmate, and didn't notice the attack for 15 minutes.
An internal review found gang tensions were a factor, with changes made to where inmates were placed.
