John Lydon still waiting to record masterpiece

Former Sex Pistols fronman John Lydon doesn’t think he’s made his best record yet.

John Lydon doesn’t think he’s made his best record yet.

The former Sex Pistols and Public Image Limited (PiL) frontman has been behind albums including ‘Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols’ and ‘Metal Box’, but insists he is still waiting to record his masterpiece.

He told BANG Showbiz: “My best record - that’s coming soon. That’s the truth of it - you’re so happy and proud of what you’ve just done.

“The last release thrills you, but then you’re back into songwriting again, and you’re off into other attitudes and aspects and approaches - I don’t think anyone worth their weight in artistic integrity will ever tell you they’re happy about something they did in the past.

“All of us are most happiest with what we have not yet achieved.”

John’s perspectives have changed greatly since penning nihilistic anthems such as ‘Anarchy in the UK’ and ‘God Save the Queen’ as a young man in the 70s, and he insists he is very happy keeping as active as possible.

He added: “When I was 21, I thought when I was 50 I would die of shame and embarrassment - well that’s the privilege of youth for you – ignorance. And enjoy your youth.

“But if you think you’re doing things right and you’re trying to get it right, every day is a great day to wake up.”

John is set to head into the studio with PiL this year to record their first album since 1992’s ‘That What Is Not’
