Dappy has been given a suspended prison sentence for assault and affray.

The N-Dubz singer - who was found guilty last month in connection with a brawl at a petrol station in Guildford in February 2012 - broke down in tears and shouted, 'Yes!', after escaping jail at a sentencing hearing at Guildford Crown Court in Surrey, South East England today.

Dappy - real name Costadinos Contostavlos - had faced three years imprisonment following his conviction, but was given a more lenient six month sentence which has been suspended for 18 months, as well as community service and monetary sanctions.

The 25-year-old star will need to complete 150 hours of community service and has also been ordered to pay £4,500 in compensation and £2,000 in costs.

Dappy's conviction stems from an incident on February 28, 2012 at a petrol station in Guildford.

The star allegedly spat at and verbally abused Grace Cochran and Serena Burton, both then 18.

The 'No Regrets' hitmaker is then said to have gotten into a brawl with a concerned onlooker, David Jenkins, who intervened on the girls' behalf. Dappy allegedly spat at the man, put him in a headlock and punched him.
