Aaron Carter thinks he is Michael Jackson's successor.

The 27-year-old singer posted a now-deleted message on his Twitter account in which he claims to have been passed the "torch" by the music icon, who passed away in 2009.

Aaron wrote: "Remember one very important thing. Michael passed down the torch to me. I never had to ask for him to do that." The post prompted an angry reaction from some online users and Aaron - who is the younger brother of former Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter - was quick to defend his position. He said: "No he compared himself to me. I knew Michael VERY well and spent lot of time with him. Just stop right there. (sic)"

He later added: "And why can't I have idols and mentors Michael invited me personally to sing with him and Luther Vandross and Beyoncé like stfu people jeez. (sic)"

The bizarre series of tweets came shortly after the blonde singer admitted to suffering from anxiety. He wrote: "It's kinda hard being me. But I'm good I promise. I love you guys and I appreciate your support I go through s**t like everyone else. (sic)"
