Earthquake damage has caused the almost 400 metre Petone Wharf, to be closed for more than three years

Earthquake damage has caused the almost 400 metre Petone Wharf, to be closed for more than three years

Almost 500 people turned out yesterday, to save it.

Now the council is proposing to demolish the wharf at a cost of six million dollars.

But campaign organiser Prue Lamason says with new technology, it would cost the same amount to restore it the much loved landmark

She says it's part of their history, and shouldn't be demolished.
