‘Sex and the City 2’ doesn’t “throw out” the rules of reality.
Director Michael Patrick King admits the film – which sees Carrie Bradhshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Kristin Davis (Charlotte York) head away on an escapade to Abu Dhabi – is not so far from real life people wouldn’t understand it.
He said: “The thing you can't let go of is gravity. The reality of gravity in writing. If someone says something really mean in a sitcom, and the next wave isn't a reaction to the reality of that, you start losing relatability
“In a lot of romantic comedies, they throw out the rules of life."
The 55-year-old filmmaker also jokes the first film was more of a depressing jaunt than the upbeat second instalment.
He told the Los Angeles Times: “The first film was about sitting in the dark and crying with Carrie.
“I wanted to do something that justifies them getting dressed up again and wanted the party to continue.”
‘Sex and the City 2’ is released on May 28.
