Michael Fassbender is to star in 'Assassin's Creed'
The 'Shame' actor will take on the lead role in the big-screen adaptation of Ubisoft's popular video game series as well as co-producing with his DMC Film partner, Conor McCaughan, and Ubisoft Motion Pictures (UMP).

Ubisoft CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet said: "Michael Fassbender was our first choice. Michael is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor."
The movie was originally developed by Sony Pictures, but work was put on hold and is now been developed independently by UMP.
A writer and director have not yet been attached, and production and distribution partners will be added at a later date.
Mr. Baronnet added: "We're open to re-discuss with the key studios once the production package is finalised. Whatever the financial model, UMP will limit its risk investment."
The sci-fi gaming series follows Desmond Miles, a bartender who discovers he is the descendant of famous assassins after being kidnapped by the Knights Templar.
He goes back in time to relive their adventures, spanning various ages including the Crusades, the Renaissance and the Revolutionary War.
'Assassin's Creed' is one of the most popular franchises of all time, selling 30 million copies since 2007.
The next instalment, 'Assassin's Creed III', will be released in October.
Michael's most recent credits include 'Prometheus' and 'A Dangerous Method', and he is currently filming 'Twelve Years a Slave' with Steve McQueen.
