Joining them on the shortlist are True Blood's Alex Skarsgard and 'The Dark Knight Rises' villain Tom Hardy, though it us unsure as to whether Tom would be interested in taking on the iconic role.
Jerry Weintraub is set to produce the feature after developing it for several years and though David has taken on the project, reports say Craig Brewer was initially tapped to do the job.
This big screen adaptation will be the second of Edgar Rice Burrough's classic novel, with the first being the 1999 Disney animation.
In the meantime Henry can be seen playing Superman in next year's movie 'Man of Steel' and Charlie is starring in sci-fi flick 'Pacific Rim' as well as 'Deadfall'.
Alex is to star in two upcoming films entitled 'The East' and 'Hidden'.
