A mystery man who claims to have inspired Adele's earliest hits has opened up about their romance.

Known only as Giles, the singer's alleged ex-boyfriend revealed they enjoyed a "whirlwind romance" before she was famous and wants her to know he still thinks about her.

After phoning British breakfast show host Neil Fox on Magic FM and requesting Elvis Presley's hit 'Always on My Mind' on Tuesday morning (19.02.13), Giles explained his choice: "Why that one? Well it's for an old flame of mine, a very old flame called Michelle Adkins. I'd like to let her know that I'm thinking of her. She's done pretty well these days. She's actually changed her name to Adele Adkins in recent years."

When pressed about their relationship, he described it as "a whirlwind romance many years ago", adding: "It was fun and eventful. All I can stay is it's all in the lyrics if you know what I mean.

"I took her to the Albert Hall when it was empty and before she only had two songs to her name and I said 'One day my darling you'll be a star and you'll be playing the Albert Hall' and then she did play Albert Hall and a lot else besides.

"She's done brilliantly so God bless her. God bless her little cotton socks."

Adele has always refused to disclose the names of any of her ex-boyfriends that caused the heartbreak laid bare in her songs.

Another of the 24-year-old singer's ex-boyfriends was previously identified as photographer Alex Sturrock, 32, who allegedly inspired her album '21'.

The singer - who is now loved up with her boyfriend Simon Konecki and gave birth to their first child Angelo James in October - frankly admitted writing songs including 'Someone Like You' to get over their break-up and famously shed a tear over the lyrics during a landmark performance at the 2011 Brit Awards.
