Ed Sheeran won't be moving to America permanently

Despite selling hundreds of thousands of records in the US, the 'Drunk' hitmaker could never leave behind his friends and family in the UK

Asked if he will make the permanent move to the US, he said: "No, I'm a British boy and I'm really a fish out of water in America. I spend a lot of time there and it is a great experience for a 23-year-old lad to have, to see all that and experience all that, but all my friends and family live here.

"In America, it's hotel rooms and friend's spare rooms and I'd rather be based in England and take frequent trips to America than move there permanently."

The singer believes maintaining his fame in America is a constant game of "keepy-up" as he credits best friend, and fellow pop star, Taylor Swift and her 2013 'The Red Tour' for his success Stateside.

Ed explained to Britain's HELLO! magazine: "It took me living in America to break America. The American music industry is like a big game of keepy-up - you're keeping a ball up by kicking it and that is your career. The moment you take your foot away, it's harder to get the ball rolling again. You need to keep the hype going.

"America would never have happened for me, or I would never have got the ball up at all if I hadn't gone on tour with Taylor Swift in 2012.

"She texted me and asked did I want to go away with her for six months. I might have been a very successful home grown act here, but not in America, so it was the best text I've ever had from Taylor."
