George Clooney has topped a Men Ageing Gracefully list.

The 53-year-old who is engaged to Amal Alamuddin - a lawyer, 17 years younger than the actor –beat off competition from stars including Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp to top the list, which aims to celebrate men who have remained good-looking as they have got older.

Surgeon Asim Shahmalak from the Crown Clinic said: "Clooney is a worthy winner. He has been a global sex symbol for 20 years and he has just as many female fans now as when he first emerged on ER."

The 'Gravity' star was praised for looking comfortable in his skin and for not dying his greying head of hair.

Asim said: "He has happily embraced middle age and looks just as sexy as a brooding silver fox as he did as a hunky young doctor in his breakthrough role."

Brad, who recently married his partner of nine, Angelina Jolie, came in at second place on the poll, while 'Pirates of the Caribbean' actor Johnny and James Bond star Daniel Craig finished in third and fourth place respectively.

Hugh Jackman, Matt Damon, Matthew McConaughey, Will Smith and Sean Penn also appeared on the list, with 'Love Actually' actor Colin Firth rounding off the top 10.

Asked about what made these stars so attractive despite their age, Asim added: "What is striking about the survey is that every single MAG (Man Ageing Gracefully) has a full head of hair… [the] survey shows that baldness can age a man by as much as 10 years."

The full top 10 of MAGs and their ages as follows:

    1 George Clooney, 53

    2 Brad Pitt, 50

    3 Johnny Depp, 51

    4 Daniel Craig, 45

    5 Hugh Jackman, 45

    6 Matt Damon, 43

    7 Matthew McConaughey, 44

    8 Will Smith, 45

    9 Sean Penn, 54

    10 Colin Firth, 53
