Katy Perry leads the nominations for this year's MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) with seven.

The 'Prism' singer is followed closely by Ariana Grande, who is up for six awards, with both stars contesting alongside Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift and Beyonce for the Best Female prize.

The two women will also compete for another two prizes, Best Song - for which Katy's 'Dark Horse' is nominated with Ariana's 'Problem' - and Best Pop.

'Happy' hitmaker Pharrell Williams is nominated for five trophies, as are newcomers 5 Seconds of Summer.

They are followed by One Direction, Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea, Eminem, Sam Smith and Kiesza, who have all received four MTV EMA nominations each.

Meanwhile, 'Crazy Stupid Love' singer Cheryl has been selected as a Wild Card entry in the Best UK & Ireland Act following a fan vote, and will contest for the prize with 1D, Calvin Harris, Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran, with the winner competing in the Best Worldwide Act category alongside other regional champions.
