Russell Brand gave Zayn Malik family planning advice.

The One Direction hunk - who is engaged to Perrie Edwards - admits he was stunned when the 39-year-old comedian offered up some birth control tips when he bumped into him backstage at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympics in London.

Writing in the band's new 'Who We Are: Our Autobiography', Zayn, 21,

said: "Backstage at the Olympics was one of the maddest times I've had with the band. These crazily famous people were coming up and talking to me.

"All my life I'd seen them on TV and here they were just chatting away to us.

"Russell was brilliant. He was saying, 'Your performance was sick.'

Then he started giving me family planning advice!

"I was like, 'Russell, you shouldn't be giving me that sort of advice!' He was hilarious, a really nice guy."

However, it appears Russell isn't the only one who thinks Zayn needs some advice on love as his ex-girlfriend Jemima Khan, who reportedly dumped the funnyman last month, also offered up some top tips in July after bonding with the singer and Naughty Boy during a night out at London's Chiltern Firehouse.

A source said previously: "Jemima took the boys under her wind and started to dish out some advice.

"She started warning them about the celebrity circuit and then switched their chat to ladies.

"She told Zayn and Naughty boy - whose real name is Shahid Khan - that they should find themselves a good wife and settle down and avoid getting involved with any gold diggers. It was obviously all tongue-in-cheek as Zayn is loved up with Perrie."

Meanwhile, 'Who We Are: Our Autobiography' is set for release on September 25.
