Bob Geldof burgled as he mourned the first anniversary of his daughter Peaches' death

Thieves struck at the Boomtown Rats singer's country retreat, Davington Priory in Faversham, Kent, South East England - three days before his daughter's memorial - and reportedly stole items from a shed on the grounds of the estate, though they didn't get into the main house.

A police spokesperson told The Sun newspaper: "Kent Police was called at just before 9.10pm on Saturday April 4 to a report of a shed burglary in Faversham.

"It was reported a chainsaw, leaf collector and a multi tool were missing from a shed at a property in Priory Road.

"Officers from Kent Police's burglary unit have investigated and enquiries are ongoing."

It is unclear as yet whether Bob was at home, but he was expected to spend the days around Peaches' memorial with his family, including her widower Thomas Cohen and sons Astala, two, and Phaedra, 23 months.

A neighbour of the 63-year-old star said: "I am not sure if Bob was there, but I know he was definitely here at some point over the weekend.

"It is a shame for it to happen at any time but even more so because of the anniversary of his daughter's death.

"I haven't seen them today and I haven't heard they were doing anything here in Kent to mark the day.

"The only people who are here right now are a few gardeners and builders who, I believe are surveying the damage."
