Zayn Malik isn't "bothered" about what people think of his dramatic new haircut

The 22-year-old singer made his first public appearance since quitting One Direction earlier this week and was sporting a newly-shaved head.

A source said: "He’s actually shaved his head before, and he thinks it suits him. So he’s not bothered what people think about it, to be honest. It’s very easy to manage and requires very little effort."

And the hair do has gone down well with his fiance, Little Mix star Perrie Edwards.

The insider added: "More importantly, Perrie loves his new look and likes how it feels when she rubs his head.

"She thinks he looks great with it too. It’s not that big a drama."

Meanwhile, another insider previously claimed Zayn cut his hair as part of a "cleansing ritual" following his departure from the chart-topping band.

A source told HollywoodLife.com: "Zayn decided to shave his head as a cleansing ritual after all he's been through. He felt it signified a fresh start, and again distances him from his boy band days when he had floppy hair."

And Zayn has also confirmed there was no bad feelings between himself and his former bandmates - Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson - whilst collecting his award for Outstanding Contribution to Music at the Asian Awards 2015 in London.

He said: "I'd also like to take this moment to thank four of the best guys that I ever met whilst being in the band and doing all the amazing things that I did.

"Some of the things that we did will stay with me for the rest of my life."
