Reese Witherspoon hasn't ruled out a career in politics

The 'Hot Pursuit' actress says she wants to fight for gender equality and might consider running for government in the future.

Asked if she has ever thought about entering the political field, the Oscar winner said: "I haven't yet, but I still have a lot of life to live, so I can't rule it out.

"I do believe that if you want to see change in the world, you have to be responsible for it. As women, we need to put our hat in the ring in government.

"Women represent 51 percent of the population, but only 19.4 percent in Congress [in the US]. That's the reason we have gender inequality. That's the reason women's health care isn't a major priority nationwide. Women are natural-born problem solvers."

The blonde beauty - who was charged with disorderly conduct after her husband, Jim Toth, was arrested and charged with DUI (Driving Under the Influence) in 2013 - says she has always been very outspoken.

The 39-year-old star told May issue of America's InStyle magazine: "I've always been pretty outspoken actually, but now I've learned to say sorry when I make mistakes too.

"I've always been a little spitfire. Sometimes it's gotten me into trouble."

But Reese still isn't afraid to share her opinions.

She said: "I've finally gotten to an age when I'm not afraid to have an opinion. I feel that my perspective matters. It took me a while to figure that out, but I'm there now."
