Charlie Sheen's ex-wife made repeated threats to expose his HIV positive status, it has been claimed.

The 'Anger Management' actor disclosed his health condition on Tuesday following weeks of speculation, but a former personal assistant (PA) to the star claims Brooke Mueller - the mother of his six-year-old twin sons Bob and Max - frequently warned she would expose the news when things between them were strained.

The unnamed staff member said: "Brooke, she almost pulled the trigger plenty of times when they were at war.

"I know there were times when she was super close to letting the cat out of the bag. She held that over his head for four years."

The ex-employee - who worked for the 50-year-old star for two years - revealed all of Charlie's staff knew about his diagnosis and had signed confidentiality agreements to keep his secret.

Speaking on the Kyle and Jackie O Show on Australia's KIIS 1065 radio station, she said: "We all had to keep it hidden. We signed disclosure agreements when we started working for him.

"I think a lot more people knew about it than they're saying. It was a hush hush thing in Hollywood".

Despite his lavish home, the former PA claimed the star opted to stay in a "dark little corner" in one room of the house leading a "sad" existence.

She said: "He lives in a $20 million house but he likes to stay in a small room and have the door closed and do whatever he's doing in there.

"It's his dark little corner where he had his drugs and is surviving off Naked Juices and is just kind of holed-up

There's a full staff downstairs at all time for his beck and call ... but he rarely goes outside and he never really leaves that little room. It's sad."

And she claimed he kept a lot of cash in the property in order to pay for his penchant for prostitutes and drugs.

She added: "He did pay his hookers, sometimes if he really liked them, up to $50,000 for the companionship and obviously the sex.

"He's kind of lonely. It's a sad life."
