Sinead O'Connor has taken to Facebook to assure her fans she's fine and well following a police call made by one of family members stating she was threatening to kill herself.

The 'Nothing Compares To You' hitmaker logged on to the social networking site on Friday, following the manhunt that ensued when the person in Ireland contacted authorities in Dublin to say they feared for her wellbeing in Chicago and a call was made to the Chicago Police Department (CPD), sparking a search for her.

The post reads: "(By the way it's bullshit I jumped off a bridge, some stupid bitch up at Swords Garda station decided she'd like to throw a bit of false and malicious gossip about is all). AM FAR TOO F*****G HAPPY FOR THAT!! (sic)"

Concern for Sinead's health and a manhunt was sparked when her relatives allegedly told them she planned to jump off a bridge in the Chicago area.

An alert on the CPD scanner said: "The word from the Ireland police sergeant Claire Mulligan, Dublin, Ireland, is saying that at 1530 hours Sinead O'Connor called and said, 'I'm on a bridge in Chicago and I'm going to jump.' "

The 49-year-old musician singer previously went missing May in Wilmette, a suburb about 15 miles north of Chicago, after failing to return from a bike ride at 6am, but she was later found "safe and well".

Sinead is currently embroiled in a custody battle with TULSA child services agency in Ireland over the custody of her 12-year-old son Shane and the matter is said to be effecting her mental health.

But today the star seemed more concerned about the result of the EU Referendum vote in Britain - in which the public voted to leave the European Union - and she believes it will affect her home country.

On Facebook, she raged: "IRELAND IS OFFICIALLY NO LONGER OWNED BY BRITAIN!!!! CONGRATS TO EVERY MAN, WOMAN AND CHILD WHO EVER DIED FOR THE CAUSE OF IRISH FREEDOM, AND ALSO TO ALL THOSE INCLUDING MYSELF, WHO HAVE BEEN PERSECUTED MERCILESSLY BY THE IRISH SO CALLED FREE-STATE FOR HAVING dec lareD SUPPORT FOR SINN FÉIN AND THE REPUBLICAN MOVEMENT. (sic)"
