Nick Cannon insists his track 'Divorce Papers' wasn't personal.

The 'America's Got Talent' host caused a stir last month when he released the song, in which he ranted about how he "can't see [his] kids 'cause the government sucks" and how it is "f***ed up" that time spent with his twins, five-year-old Moroccan and Monroe, is referred to as "visitation".

However, he insists the track wasn't a personal attack on his estranged wife Mariah Carey but he was simply "venting" about the process of getting divorced.

He said: "That was more of a venting process of what this last two and half to three years has been going on in my mind.

"I've never really been able to be personally on that level. I wasn't upset with anyone. If I was upset with anyone, I was upset with the process."

Nick - who split from Mariah in August 2014 - also laughed off speculation he had deliberately stalled in signing off on his divorce in order to stop the 'Hero' hitmaker from tying the knot with her fiance James Packer.

He told 'Entertainment Tonight': "There were so many rumours out there that I was holding something up. Like, 'Nah!' That's clearly not the case. Who made that up? Who put that out there?"

"I wish it was that easy where you can just sign something and say, 'Oh, I'm done,' but it's a lot of things that go with that that are beyond my control.

"The only thing that's important to me is my children. I want what's best for them. I believe my ex feels the exact same way

"Again, you got to respect the process. Luckily, that's all behind us now and everyone can move on and be happy. That's where we are."
