Kristen Stewart's relationship with Robert Pattinson became a "product"

The 26-year-old actress dated her 'Twilight Saga' co-star for five years but she eventually found their romance - which hit the rocks when she was unfaithful with her 'Snow White and the Huntsman' director Rupert Sanders - stopped being "real life" and seemed to just be "entertainment" for people.

She said: "People wanted me and Rob to be together so badly that our relationship was made into a product. It wasn't real life anymore. And that was gross to me.

"It's not that I want to hide who I am or hide anything I'm doing in my life. It's that I don't want to become a part of a story for entertainment value."

The 'Cafe Society' actress - who is dating Alicia Cargile and previously romanced singer Soko - admitted she is more open about speaking about her personal life these days because she wants to do something "really positive" by discussing same-sex relationships.

She explained to T magazine: "I would never talk about any of my relationships before, but once I started dating girls it seemed like there was an opportunity to represent something really positive. I still want to protect my personal life, but I don't want to seem like I'm protecting the idea, so that does sort of feel like I owe something to people."

And Kristen - who has been with Alicia on and off for three years - is deeply in love with her girlfriend.

Showing the publication's reporter pictures of the visual effects producer, she exclaimed: "Look how cute she is. I love her so much."

The 'Equals' actress admits she has struggled to find a balance between opening up but still being guarded.

She said: "How do you feel like you're not being stolen from, yet at the same time not guard yourself to the point of depriving yourself of so much goodness in life?"

Kristen had a lot of sleepless nights trying to figure out the answer, but she did learn another lesson.

She explained: "Nothing killed me. I was skinny as hell, I looked crazy, but I was fine. I now have faith in my body to carry on, and that has made me a better actor."
