Kate McKinnon was "destitute" before landing her job on 'Saturday Night Live'

The 32-year-old comic - who is best known for her impressions of Justin Bieber, Ellen DeGeneres and Hillary Clinton - has been a hit with viewers since making her debut on the sketch show in 2012, and she will always be grateful for the programme because she has "no skills" to do anything else.

She said: "[Before I got on the show, I was] destitute, unemployed, living in LA - which I hate.

"Thank god that I got to have that job, because I'm not qualified for anything else.

"I have no skills. I'm bad at most things."

And the 'Ghostbusters' actress admits being on the show is a dream come true because she was a fan of the programme from a young age.

She told People magazine: "I started watching 'SNL' when I was 12 ... just seeing Cheri Oteri and Molly Shannon and Ana Gasteyer do their thing and be unafraid to look ridiculous and act outlandish, I thought, 'That's me. That's the job I should have.' "

Though she is growing in fame, Kate insists she doesn't get recognised very much as she looks like a "yeti".

She said: "I do get approached occasionally, but not a ton.

"I'm unrecognisable because I'm coated in cat hair and sweat. And there's a sort of yeti quality to my presence ... so I don't think that people can see the face. What am I going to do? Buy a lint roller?"

Kate recently admitted she has grown to accept her impersonations are just a part of her and joked she really is Justin Bieber.

She said: "I came to a reckoning that [pretending to be other people] is in fact such a real, huge chunk of the way I communicate. I thought it was something I was putting on to disguise something else, but it's not."

Asked if that means she is Justin Bieber in real life, she said: "That is what I am telling you, yes."
