Frances Bean Cobain's ex has hired the private detective used by Courtney Love to investigate Kurt Cobain's death.

Isaiah Silva, 31, has employed the services of Tom Grant, who was enlisted by the Hole singer to dig around for answers after the Nirvana frontman - who is Frances' father - committed suicide by shooting himself in 1994.

However, Silva is hoping Grant will protect him, his seven-year-old son Arlo and Arlo's mother Jessica Sullivan, 27, from reportedly being harassed by Love and her manager Sam Lutfi, according to Page Six.

According to the report Lutfi - who managed Britney Spears during her notorious breakdown - has tried to "strong-arm" Silva into returning a guitar worth millions that was owned by Kurt and played in Nirvana's famous 'MTV Unplugged' session.

The instrument was given to Silva as a wedding gift from Kurt's daughter when they married in secret in June 2014.

It's also claimed the manager telephoned Sullivan and threatened her in order to get her to side with Frances in the divorce proceedings, which will decide the fate of the guitar.

A source told the publication: "The threats only stopped after Isaiah's family hired Courtney's former private investigator, Tom Grant. Tom even stayed overnight at Jessica Sullivan's home in case Lutfi showed up."

Grant - who concluded Kurt was murdered in a conspiracy and Love is a "psychopath", though not implicating her in the killing - has posted audio recordings of Lutfi's calls to Sullivan on the Web site BulliesNightmare.com.

Meanwhile, Silva is demanding $25,000 a month in spousal support from Frances, though it's believed the couple never had a pre-nuptial.
