    Cromwell wind causes damage

    Police have urged people in the Cromwell area to stay inside while strong winds, which have included a series of mini-tornadoes, passes over.


    A series of mini-tornadoes in the Cromwell area of Otago has damaged fences and windows and overturned trailers.

    But police say there have been no reports of injuries on Wednesday, although people have been urged to stay inside and keep away from windows while the weather passes.

    They say motorcyclists and drivers of heavy vehicles should avoid travel through the Cromwell basin because of the strong winds.

    There could also be delays on some roads because of fallen power poles.
