Lily Collins has learned to love her "quirks"

The 27-year-old actress has nothing but admiration for her mother Jill Tavelman and hopes she grows up to become "half the woman" she is because she's taught her to have more respect for herself and accept her peculiar mannerisms.

Speaking to The I Paper, Lily - whose father is the legendary Phil Collins - said: "My mum has taught me so much about loving myself and accepting myself for all that I am, quirks included. Her passion is utterly infectious and her creativity never ceases to amaze me. One day I hope to be at least half the woman that she is."

The 'Love, Rosie' star has just released her debut essay collection 'Unfiltered: No Shane, No Regrets, Just Me', which is a conversation about the things young women struggle with; body image, self-confidence, relationships, family and dating, but has admitted she doesn't have one particular room that helps her write better content.

She explained: "I don't have one particular room where I writer. I tend to change my environment to keep on my toes and constantly inspired. Sometimes I write in my bedroom, either at my desk or in my bed, which is filled with all sorts of oddities and art. Other times I take my computer to a coffee shop or restaurant. Sometimes I like silence and others, I listen to music. It depends on my mood."

The brunette beauty has taken inspiration from novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald - who died in 1940 - and wishes she had been around when he was penning his books.

She said: "I've always loved F. Scott Fitzgerald because the worlds he creates are so detailed and rich. I feel like I'm completely immersed in his descriptive language, as if I should have existed back then. His dialogue is so smart and his characters are beautifully flawed and relatable."
