Cher has dropped out of her upcoming Lifetime movie appearance as she’s “worried” about her mother’s “fragile” health

The 70-year-old singer and actress was due to appear in a Lifetime movie about the 2016 water crisis in Flint, Michigan, but revealed in a statement on Friday (23.03.17) that she would not be able to complete her commitments due to a “serious family issue”.

Her statement read: "This has been a project so near and dear to my heart and I was truly looking forward to helping tell this story. Unfortunately, I will be unable to leave Los Angeles during the scheduled filming as I am dealing with a serious family issue that prevents me from going on location for the April filming.

"I’m so glad that Craig and Neil [the producers] plan to move ahead and I know that this Lifetime movie will be done beautifully."

Since releasing the statement, fans of the ‘If I Could Turn Back Time’ hitmaker have speculated about her own health, but sources have reported the issue lies with Cher’s 90-year-old mother Georgia Holt.

A source told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: "Cher’s worried about her mother’s health. She’s in her 90’s now and does not want to be far from her. Her mother is not deathly ill, but is somewhat fragile. Cher’s health is fine.”

The ‘I Got You Babe’ musician, who has donated water bottles to the Flint community, was also set to be an ex ecutive producer on the television movie, which would have marked her first return to the small screen since her Golden Globe-nominated role in ‘If These Walls Could Talk’ in 1996.
