Shawn Mendes has apologised to Katy Perry after she was accused of groping him on the red carpet at the iHeart Radio awards in March

The 'Chained to the Rhythm' hitmaker was rumoured to have groped Shawn at the awards show - but the singer has now dismissed the speculation and issued an apology to Katy, 32.

He explained: "I don't think it's actually true. That's what I was told.

"But actually then I saw her later that night and she told me it wasn't true. So I'm sorry for all of those rumours, Katy."

And despite his love-conscious lyrics and enviable good looks, Shawn revealed he is yet to have a serious romance.

The 18-year-old star told The Sun newspaper: "I don't think so. I can't wait because I really have some songs to write about."

Shawn is currently working on his third album and has revealed that touring helps to inspire his songwriting.

He said: "The tour is a very inspirational place. Whether or not you're finishing songs you're coming up with ideas every single day."

In fact, Shawn recently revealed he plans to write "a lot" of his next album "on the road".

Shawn shared: "We're trying to plan everything so that there's time to make music, too. I'll be writing and recording a lot on the road. I want to make sure I have a good amount of time to create the next album."

The Canadian star also suggested he could release new material in the coming months, because he doesn't see any value in holding his music back.

He explained: "I think if you're creating music and you love the song, holding it back is just doing it an injustice.

"Sometimes when the song is right for that time period it's just kinda bad to let it wait and then when you do release it eight months down the road, it's not the same."
