Riz Ahmed thinks his parents would have slept through his triumph at the Emmy Awards on Sunday night (17.09.17)

The 34-year-old Brit was named the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his starring role in the crime drama 'The Night Of', but after he collected his award at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, Riz revealed his parents - who live in London, England - were probably asleep throughout the ceremony.

He said: "By the time all the parties will be wrapping up, I think my parents and my family will be awake in London. So I think I'll FaceTime them. They're all asleep right now."

Riz also admitted to being surprised by how he reacted to winning his award.

He told 'Entertainment Tonight': "It's quite a crazy thing because obviously conceptually you understand this is our job, there are awards, people get awards sometimes. It's a bit of a random thing.

"But when it actually happens, it's quite a physical thing, weirdly. I just feel super relaxed. I could sleep for a week now."

Riz revealed he would love to reprise the role of Nasir 'Naz' Khan in a second season of 'The Night Of', but he admitted the show's future still remains uncertain.

The actor shared: "I don't have the scoop, but I hope that it comes back."

And Riz explained that regardless of whether his character makes a return to TV screens in the coming months, he will continue to follow the show as a fan.

He said: "If it does, I imagine my character's kind of reached the end of his story. But I'd really love to see John Turturro come back and take on a new case. As a fan, I'd love to see that."
