The 2017 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show had a huge "last minute" shake up to the running order

A number of changes to the annual lingerie extravaganza were made just hours before the models graced the catwalk at the Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai, China, on Monday (20.11.17)

One significant alteration was that designer Olivier Rousteing's special Punk segment was moved to the start of the event when it was initially supposed to close the show.

Speaking about the changes to Vogue.co.uk, Sophia Neophitou-Apostolou - the creative director of the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show - said: "Things always change dramatically in the run-up to show time. We had a last-minute change at 3.30 this morning for the punk section, which was supposed to close the show, and is now opening it."

And the reason for the reshuffle was because the creative team believed the rock-inspired garments - created as part of a special collaboration between the Balmain creative director and Victoria's Secret, branded VS x Balmain - would have more of an impact at the beginning of the showcase.

Sophia continued: "The team felt that the Balmain looks within the segment would be more impactful at the start. This, in turn, created a lot of changes in the rotation for the next sections."

But the team are pleased with the outcome and have hailed the "glam-punk theme" as the "most fantastical thing" Victoria's Secret has ever done.

Sophia continued: "The opening section is our punk collaboration with Olivier. It's one of the most fantastical things we've ever done. The section idea came first and then we approached Olivier, who turned it into a glam-punk theme."

The themes that followed were Porcelain Angel, Winter's Tale, Millennial Nation and Goddesses and Nomadic Adventure.

For the first time ever the Angels, including Alessandra Ambrosio, Lily Aldridge and Elsa Hosk, strutted along on a U-shaped runway, which was unlike any previous catwalk the company has used before.

Model Leomie Anderson explained: "The runway is insane, it's U shaped and something you've never seen from Victoria's Secret before. And the Balmain section is going to be done differently to any other section. It will be a monumental moment for the brand."
